Dear Friends,
I am so sad to tell you that our dear friend and long-time newsletter administrator, Cyndi Deville, passed away. Cyndi went in for surgery yesterday for pancreatic cancer but suffered massive organ failure.

She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

We'll have a brunch/shower/reunion 10 a.m.-noon Sunday, Aug. 5 at the Commons House of the co-housing community. We'll have access to the microwave, but not the oven or stove.

napkins
drinks and paper cups
brunch food (quiche, baked goods, fruit, etc.)
We'll also spend some time catching up on what we've all been doing with our creative endeavors.

article on the event.  A group of women have invited women
all over the world to stand together.

The idea came from a book called a THE GREAT SILENT GRANDMOTHER

There will be 2284 women events in 66 countries. The number keeps growing.

Just CAWS Newsletter glitch

I wanted to let everyone know that I am aware you received a bajillion copies of the newsletter in your email box this morning. Yahoo.groups was a having a glitch in their software. They're trying to make postings appear quicker and instead it made so postings multiplied themselves. I've heard some people got 20 copies of the newsletter and others got 12. This was not intentional but a bug in a program.

Hey, what was it that I told the group that I would post here? Something about next month's JustCAWS gathering at Casa Verde Commons entailing crazy exercises to come up with a witty ditty, a plain name, a pogo logo, a lame game? We want more general CREATIVITY exercises that lend themselves to the heart of the matter of CREATIVITY which will then find expression in each woman's chosen media...written or spoken work, visual arts, movement, sound, etc. Actual practice or tool developing, skill building, medium expedium, that may be limited to particular art forms can happen at other times or locations and be POSTED HERE. But the first of the month meetings will target EVERYWOMAN's creative juices.

So the poets who poet don't have to draw, the fancy dancy Nancies don't have to cut-and-paste or cook-and-taste.

Did I get it right? Does my message come through? Write to me, please, to let me know!

Daycare at Just CAWS?

Several women have commented that they'd like to come to some meetings but don't have babysitting. There is a playroom on site at the community house. Would anyone be interested in either sharing time (maybe 4 30-minute shifts) to watch the kids or paying to bring in an outside babysitter/art teacher? (Maybe we could hire someone from the college down the road.)

Dinner And A Movie

The Mediterranean Cafe has a great offer for Valentine's Day or any other day. For only $30. a couple (+ that pesky sales tax) we offer The Mediterranean Feast (spanakopita, moussaka, Med salad, dolmas, rice, hummus,grilled pita bread, the best falafels anywhere, gyro meat) & BAKLAVA and 2 movie passes to Kimball's. Reservations are necessary, but the great part about it is you can use the passes anytime and Kimball's shows some of the best movies in town. When was the last time you went downtown? No really there is plenty of parking, althought you may have to park in a garage but what's a few extra minutes when all the great stuff is downtown! There is also a free downtown shuttle and very cool stores that have neat gifts you won't find anywhere else. Or wander over to The Book Broker or Poor Richard's for those books you've been meaning to get.

Creative Arts Salon

I am hosting a Creative Arts Salon the first Monday of each month, and today (Feb 5 2007) is the very first meeting:

dictionary definition: salon: "a regular gathering of prominent people from the worlds of literature, art, music, or politics, especially one held at the home of a wealthy woman"

in this particular case, remove "prominent", "wealthy" and "politics" and you'll get a pretty good idea... :-D

When: The first Monday of each month,
5:30 pm potluck dinner (optional), 7-9 pm meeting

Where: North Central part of town, near Fillmore and Hancock intersection

Who: Adults and mature teens (meetings could be "R" rated at times)

Workshop and Counseling Room Space Rental

Cooking Class Announced

Mediterranean Cafe is announcing the first in a series of cooking classes. The first one will be held at our downtown store on February 18, 2007 beginning at noon and ending at 3 p.m. Our restaurant is closed on Sundays so there will be ample opportunity to learn new skills, try out your skills, ask questions and bring home great tasting soups.

This class is called Basic Knife Skills and Basic Soup Techniques. The cost is $35 per person or $55 which includes an all purpose chef's knife. You must bring a knife with you if you don't intend on purchasing a knife. The class will cover basic knife skills taught by Cordon Bleu trained chef Mike Bergman and soup making techniques taught by Mike and Just Cawser, Pat Kennelly. The classes are limited to 8 people so please register by emailing me at kennelly25@msn.com. If you don't get into this class we will schedule another class in March. The guy at Paragon just called - he'd forgotten they're having a three-day show in early March, so I won't hang mine until after that comes down. I'm relieved - I was not looking forward to hanging two shows in what could have been two days.
So don't rush over there to see my work until mid-March! :-)

Busy, busy

Hi everyone -

I just found out in the last couple of days that I've been accepted for shows at the Paragon Ballroom/Cedars Jazz Club (I-25 and Fillmore) and the Pikes Perk on South Eighth. Turns out, they both need work starting in February. As in 11 days from now!

Fortunately, I've got a lot of work on hand - Paragon has room for at least 30 pieces. Also fortunately, they're both willing to have work there for three months or so.

FYI: Paragon doesn't charge a commission and Ron, the guy who books art shows, has been great to work with. The only caveat is they don't want anything risque (and I know you ladies like to raise eyebrows) because they frequently have wedding receptions there - which tends to mean elderly people.

At the very least, I'll get a few more eyeballs on my work. If you're interested, Ron's cell phone number is 510-1450.

The show at Pikes Perk will be Red Rock Canyon photos. Because I just noticed it looks very easy to add images, I'll throw one in here. Well, actually, up there.
